it was a beautiful morning, the first of may
known more comradely as international workers day
we took the day off, some called in sick
others more courageously walked off the shift
met in downtown manhattan, workers, allies and more
for the 2016 immigrant workers justice tour
at ICE headquarters, screaming 'we will not go silently'
others ran ahead to visit city winery
'these hands make the bread that you sell everyday
will you side with the workers who are demanding fair pay'
they said we're too aggressive and told us to get out
but just down the street you could start to hear our allies shout
i nervously gripped the mic and here's what i said
'i am a worker at amy's bread
i'm living check to check and struggling with rent
today i'm going to make sure our message is sent
we're sick of union busting and stalled negotiations
today we're standing up against worker exploitation
to the fascists, cops and bosses who used to hassle me
today these streets are ours, tomorrow, the factories'
